Black Slate Floor

Black Slate Floor was a material I originally was creating for a set of material studies inspired by Remedy's game Control. I decided to deviate a bit from the references to give it a more unfamiliar look and something of my own. Rough yet filled with minerals, giving the stone a slight shine to it. I went with a black grout to keep it in line with the dark tones of the slate while adding in a further feeling of discomfort. That the material isn't fully natural and nor is the place it's in. Maybe the stone itself is actually cut out in tall quadratic pillars, similar to basalt formations. So that what you see is only the tip of the iceberg. To top it off, I opted for a 1024px detail normal on top for crisp closeups so that the stone, while processed, remains rough to the touch.
