The Rookie Awards 2022

Hello everyone! I just sent in my submission for The Rookies yearly contest "Rookie Awards 2022". Feel free to take a look. And good luck to everyone participating. I've seen a lot of awesome art already. Looking forward to seeing more in the coming days!

I also want to extend a big thank you to The Rookies for organising this!

Night Street Pt.9

General / 03 April 2022

This week I've been focusing a lot on getting more depth into the scene, as well as making a final ground material variation in order to create a bit of orderly breakup in the ground. I also tweaked the roughness for my materials making it all look more wet, as well as looking into some water pool decals! Next week I'll be wrapping this piece up, adding some final details and getting my renders done. So next time you see this piece it'll be finished and posted!

1900s Dentist Office Pt.4

General / 17 October 2021

Last week was a bit quiet, but I've been busy working away on a floor material for the scene! Quite fun doing a material using ZBrush for a base height sculpt. I'm looking forward to exploring that workflow more during the project :) The material itself is now finished and implemented to my diorama.

The diorama blockout is also now complete and I've made the cabinet into a basemesh ready to take into ZBrush. So the plan for the next week is to get all meshes ZBrush-ready and maybe get some sculpting started!

Realm Well - Stylized Practice

General / 22 September 2021

And as the Hero reached out to touch the well's magical waters, they saw a different place before them...right behind the enemy...
We recently had an assignment at The Game Assembly where we needed to sculpt a prop in the Heroes of the Storm artstyle. I wanted to challenge myself a bit and practice translating something from a realistic game. For this I chose the Realm Travel Device from God of War (2018) by Kevin Quinn. It was quite the challenge but I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Once I felt I had translated the original artwork, I went ham. Adding the orb with the falling liquid, making the well liquid behave more aggressive, and added in some rocks! While the end result isn't a finished game asset or "portfolio-ready", I felt like it was an experiment worth sharing as a blog post nonetheless :)

In any case, I call it a Realm Well. The basic idea of it would be that a player in Heroes of the Storm would interact with it, and be teleported to another Realm Well captured by their team. Similar to the Waypoints in Diablo.

It's been really fun and I could definately consider doing more stylized art in the future, especially these ZBrush sketches. A big thank you to my teacher and classmates at The Game Assembly, as well as the Stylized Art Collective Discord for some invaluable feedback! Also a big thank you to Michael Vicente (Orb) for all the great ZBrush resources. Now then, on to the next project!

The Club's ROCKing New Year Challenge 2021

General / 01 February 2021

Hello everyone!

Decided to really rock in the new year by joining a sculpting challenge with TheClub Discord. The challenge was to sculpt 1 rock per day in 1 hour. And now that January is over, I'm finally done! It's been great fun really getting into the nitty gritty details of rocks, analysing different references (both real life and from games) and try some slightly different styles. It's been a blast and I hope you like them!

Until then I'm leaving you all with an overview of all the highpoly sculpts in ZBrush. Great job to everyone else who participated and supported each other throughout the challenge. A special thank you to TheClub Discord for hosting this challenge. I'm looking forward to more art and fun throughout the year! Bye for now!

A Look Back At 2020 and Happy New Year!

General / 22 December 2020

6 new finished projects in 2020?! What a year!

2020. What a year!

6 new finished projects. That just feels crazy, especially in a year like this. I feel like my art has evolved a ton. I couldn't have done it without the community! So a big THANK YOU! A lot of other stuff has happened this year too. Moving to Malmö and starting new studies at The Game Assembly was probably the biggest. Looking forward to what's to come!

Here's to another year of art and the game art community!

Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and good luck in 2021!

More Booleans! Ahhhh!

General / 21 January 2020

Hi, I'm Adam, and I'm a Boolaholic.

For this box I wanted something crate-like. Few more details I would love to add however to it (mainly patterns). Could be a fun side project (not that I need more projects right now hehe.)

On a more serious note, my fishing rod is still well underway, had a couple of baking errors during today's session which I need to sort out, as well as baking out a Color ID mask. Got some more fun with Booleans done earlier today too which I thought I'd post while I keep working on sorting out the bake errors. Will post a more comprehensive project update for the fishing rod and scene later this week to summarize. Until then!

(PS: Continuing with the last post's theme since stuff did actually get on fire this time, namingly the fishing rod bake...)

Late Night Boolean Madness!

General / 21 January 2020

Spent the evening today to get into the HardOps plugin for Blender, I really like it! Big thumbs up to the folks behind it whom kindly made an excellent tutorial to get people started too!

(Luckily, nothing caught on fire...I think.)

A Look Back At 2019 and Happy New Year!

General / 31 December 2019

2019 has been a REALLY eventful year for me!

Not to mention, it's been a good year full of new experiences and learning. Apart from finishing a couple of new projects, the first commercial game I've worked on (Bannermen) launched. I've gone back to that same studio for a 6 month internship, working on some really exciting stuff I hopefully can share in the not too distant 20th decade of the 2000s! As you've probably already seen I'm currently also working on exciting projects in my free time which I look forward to keep working on (and finishing ;)) in 2020.

I wish to thank all of you, not just the ones supporting me one way or the other, and not just all my friends, collegues and mentors. I want to thank everyone here on Artstation and beyond for making all the amazing and truly inspiring art you do, no matter how big all small..

In conclusion I just want to share my Artstation Recap and wish you all...

Happy New Year, and Good Luck in 2020!
