Aava Art Jam#4 - Art Deco Pt.5

Work In Progress / 25 October 2020

It is done! (At least for now)

Finally got the fan to a place where I'm happy to submit! (Although a bit late). Working on the art jam has been a blast and I can't wait until the next one. I'll keep making updates on this one however as I have a few more tweaks to make (including optimizing polycount hehe) before fully calling it done. Planning to get it all finished within the coming week nonetheless! See you then!

Wear it and tear it!

Today has mostly been about further defining the materials, adding grunge, wear and tear to the fan, as well as getting some more normal info in there. It's not quite there yet so I'll need another few days to get it finished. Toning down some of the wear and what not. Nevertheless, it's close!

*2 months, and one move to Malmö later...*

Weeks have gone by without any updates, but I'm finally back up and running, and in a new city (Malmö) no less!

Unfortunately I've had to scale down the scope of the project to make it to the deadline of the art jam (which is tomorrow...yikes!). Hence the scope was scaled down to a fan. (Yes, I'm not a fan of it either, but bear with me. It's gonna come out fan-tastic.)

Puns aside, it's been a lot of fun working on the project, and I'm looking forward to finishing it! Here are the latest wips, with the fan right now being retopoed and having the base materials blocked out. Hopefully getting finished tomorrow!

And some highpoly renders:

I also got a basic wooden tile material started during the earlier weeks of the project. Very basic, but still something! It will be worked more on once the fan is finished :)

See you all tomorrow for (hopefully) the final renders of the fan!

Aava Art Jam#4 - Art Deco Pt.2

Work In Progress / 15 August 2020

Week two - Heavy lifting!

Week two...can't believe it's already over!

A lot has been happening this past week, the scale of things have changed a bit, and most of the placeholders are now in...place. This week I also managed to reach Affiliate status over on Twitch (thanks everyone who made that happen!). In other words, a lot of things have happened!

Next week will probably be a bit slower due to moving and some other things going on. Nevertheless I hope to have the blockout completely done by the start of next week. See you in the next update!

Aava Art Jam#4 - Art Deco Pt.1

Work In Progress / 10 August 2020

This week the Aava Art Jam started!

It's the fourth art jam hosted by Kim Aava and this time the theme is art deco and art nouveau. I decided to settle on a concept by Jose Borges called "Solaris: Station Lobby". It's going to be a challenge working with a new shape language, but a fun one nonetheless. As of right now I'm blocking out the environment which (hopefully) will be finished when the art jam ends on the 4th of October. It's also nice to take a break from the other project to focus on something so that I later can come back with fresh eyes.

Either way, good luck to everyone participating in the art jam and I'll see you all on Twitch or in next week's update right here on the blog!

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games - Rework and Polish Pt.2

Work In Progress / 27 July 2020

Slow progress...but still progress!

Been feeling a bit unmotivated lately (heat, isolation, you know the drill) but it's getting better! Been spending some time working on the new tree meshes (testing the new bark material and whatnot), as well as a new moss material!

Back in action!

After a few (well needed) weeks of vacation I'm finally back doing game art. And it does feel great to say the least!

I've gone back to my existing assets, re-evaluating what needs the most rework and what doesn't. What's needed the most at this stage are reworks of the trees along with the bark, as well as making some less soft rocks. Gotta sharpen them a bit! So far so good, looking forward to how it all progresses in the coming weeks :D

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.6

Work In Progress / 14 June 2020

Final week of the course done, now for retouching the scene!

I'm really happy with the course, and want to thank CGMA, my instructor and mentor Tragan Monaghan (lectures by Jeremy Huxley), and all my great classmates!

I've learned a whole lot, and have a lot more to apply the new knowledge to. In the coming week/weeks I'll be working on reworking what didn't work, and get the scene a bit closer to the original concept. I will most definately be looking into more CGMA courses in the future, and I highly recommend them to people! (Just be aware of the pre-requisites and what you're getting yourself into :D)

Now then if you'll excuse me...I need some darn sleep.
