CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.5

Work In Progress / 06 June 2020

Almost at the end! (or...something)

Week 5 was as predicted, polish polish polish. It's been a much calmer week though (surprisingly) and I've thoroughly enjoyed the process! What I now have left is remaking the trees, making a more proper unique mesh for the focal point rather than only a bunch of rocks mushed together, and lighting. It's a lot so I'll make sure to focus on the course assignments first hand to finish those this coming (and final) week of the course. THEN I'll rework and polish whatever I have left after next week. See you then!

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.4

Work In Progress / 01 June 2020

A bit late but here we go!

Week 4 was a lot of stress like week 3, but also a lot of fun. Found myself quite challenged by making a lot of materials in Substance Designer, but managed to come up with something good enough for the moment! Got a lot of polish to do during week 5 and the idea is to get everything remaining in engine this week. No time to waste so let's get to it!

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.3

Work In Progress / 23 May 2020

Week 3...oh what a week.

It's been a busy week to say the least! The CGMA assignments have been quite stressful with getting back in Substance Designer to make a bark material for the tree, with me following a tutorial by Daniel Thiger to get the basics done as I'm not that familiar with the process! Furthermore, I've also been making a more "proper" tree by experimenting a bit in SpeedTree. As I'm not fully satisfied I'll probably get back to that later down the line. Managed to turn in the assignment with 6 minutes to spare...pheu!

Also got some more foliage in there, this time it was grass, along with some other plant I couldn't quite identify from outside. To wrap this week up I also took a second pass of the camera, locking down into a tighter area closer to the concept. Now I'm Looking forward to getting more into Substance Designer next week, as well as making some ferns!

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.2

Work In Progress / 17 May 2020

Week 2 of CGMA has been quite eventful with a lot of stuff happening! I've gotten my rocks sculpted and into Unreal Engine 4 with their normal maps applied! Also did a quick and dirty first version of the trees and the environment! Week 3 will be stressful with finishing the trees (bark and canopy), creating 2 more plants and getting some basic lighting in there!

Since a week back I'm also streaming the process on Twitch! So feel free to stop by and say hi :)

CGMA Class - Vegetation & Plants for Games Pt.1

Work In Progress / 08 May 2020

This week I started doing a CGMA class in vegetation with Tragan Monaghan. So far I've learned a lot and it's been great fun exploring more ZBrush. It's always exciting with new workflows and trying out different things, and this time it was polypainting! Previously I've only done vegetation using either Substance Designer or photo textures. I find the ZBrush method of sculpting + polypainting really relaxing and quite an artistic method! Highly recommend trying it out if you haven't already!

When it comes to concept I decided to go with "Grove" by Jordan Grimmer. I just love the Witcher vibes in it and wanted to try and make something in a similar style to the Witcher. Hopefully it'll go well!

Wish You Were Here Pt.11

Work In Progress / 13 April 2020

Fine...the end wasn't near.

As you might've noticed, I have however uploaded a breakdown of the props I've made for the scene, which you can find here.

Since then I've been looking into reworking my trees but haven't gotten around to it due to some personal stuff (which I hope I can share more about soon!). However I've finally started reworking the trees now! Getting the grips of making manual trees is a bit difficult, but a lot of fun :D

Wish You Were Here Pt.10

Work In Progress / 15 March 2020

The end is near!

Finally approaching the end of the project and getting the lighting in a place I'm near happy with. Did some test shots today which came out pretty nicely. Just got some more tweaks on the lighting and some textures and then that'll be the wrap of this project! HOPEFULLY done by the end of this coming week.

Wish You Were Here Pt.9

Work In Progress / 18 February 2020

Finished the Tackle Box!

I've gotten the tackle box to a place I'm really happy with. Was a lot of fun to play around with texturing it in an interesting way. Also tried out composition for the breakdown presentation and I think I got it nailed down quite well for beauty renders :) As of yet I've only gotten the lighting for the first shot down, but hopefully I'll get the rest of the shots down very soon! See you then!
